  4. Hello there. I enjoy reading your blog. I have visited Singapore during the summer. We are most likely going to relocate there from The Bay Area. I have only visited one school which is the Stamford American and was impressed with their program. We would also would like to check out SAS and UWC. Is it hard to get in during the second tterm? Also, the registration fee is just insanely high at the SAS…seriously, We have 3 kids ages 14, 12 and 8. Hope to hear from you and continue blogging. Haven’t seen you in a while 😉

  5. Hello Jennifer, thank you for posting your experience. We are looking to move to Singapore (from CA with 2 kids – 7 and 3) as well and your blog is very helpful. Similar to others above, I was wondering if you could please answer some questions about schools, housing etc. Would totally appreciate it. Thanks and look forward to connecting with you.

  6. Hi Jennifer,

I imagine you grow tired of these inquiries, but I just stumbled upon your lovely blog while doing some research on our upcoming move to Singapore. Your blog has been the best resource of information that I have found. We are from Louisiana, spent a couple of years in The Netherlands, back to LA and now moving to Singapore in June. I will be traveling with 4 children this time (ages 7,5,2 and 1) and I was hoping you could share the name of the school your children attend. My biggest concern is getting my school aged children into the right school. I hear it can be challenging finding a spot for the younger children.

I don’t want to take too much of your time, but would really love an idea on the schools if you have a minute. Many thanks!

  7. Hello, I stumbled upon your blog, when I was looking for a topic : how to overcome not liking Singapore.. I too am from Northern Cal (Oakland & Walnut Creek). Our family of 4 moved here in August from Scottsdale Arizona. Came here thinking we were going to LOVE it. I moved everything, left nothing in storage because I expected this to be our home for at least 10 years. Kids settled well and love SAS. Husband is busy at work (been with his company over 20 years). Me, well, that is a whole different story. 2nd week here I ended up wit Semolina Poisoning (from the Adams Hocker Stand) Landed at Novena Hospital for over a week. My husband traveled here many times, claiming “You are going to LOVE it”, “it’s so clean”, “beautiful”.. This move will have been our 6th move, so I’m familiar with the process of packing/unpacking and getting the kids settled in school, adjusting – But what I didn’t know or I guess understand is the culture here that is so hard for me as an American to grasp or come to grips with. The ME FIRST attitude, rushing in the evaluator, pushing their way on the MRT, overcrowding when clearly there isn’t enough room in the elevator or MRT or Bus, walking into your on the street, not saying excuse me (for walking into you or pushing you out of the way), tailgating when driving, not staying in their own lane when driving, cutting you off when driving. How food is 3x more expensive. I’ll stop. But, since you live here I know, you know, what I mean. This is NOT how I was raised nor, how I want my children to be- Be it Asian Culture or Saving Face – which is a slogan used all the time – I don’t know how to get over it or I guess accept this? I’m looking for any insight you may have with how you overlook this or manage this, ‘way of living’. As a human being, to me, no matter what country you are from, being polite, helpful, is not optional. It’s just being a good person right?

  8. I just found your blog, and I am so grateful for your insights! My fiance and I are considering moving to Singapore and I’ve read all your posts. It is so helpful to gain some perspective from a fellow California girl!

  9. Jennifer, Hi, moving to SG at end of 2013. Starting to research apartments and was curious in which you lived? I would love a nice pool and large balcony as you mentioned you had in SG too. Please email me back. Thanks!

  10. Thank you for this truly wonderful blog. I just moved here from Washington as a graduate/professional exchange student for 6 months. It’s been a somewhat jarring experience and reading about someone else’s experiences has really helped, even if my situation (single, short-term, and new to the expat life) is somewhat different. Thanks again!

  11. We are moving from Ohio to Singapore in July to teach — stumbled across your blog and love it. Thanks for writing so much great stuff!
